(Heidi) | | 2002-07-17 22:30:21 | For those interested in fueling up before and during the tourny, read on! You probably have heard of Carbo loading.. if not it put simply is depleting your body of it's main energy source (Carbohydate/or Glycogen) and then overloading it in a short time period. However, this can be done with a more moderate approach and has been proven to be just as effecient. Since our tourny is this weekend, the most effecient way to fuel our bodies is to have a high carbohydate meal the night before, such as pasta with breads and vegetables, that is low in fat and protein. Your breakfast should consist of carbohydates again, such bread and cereals, bananas and raisins(an excellent source of carbs!) Having high fats or proteins slows down the digestion process and may cause cramping, so it is not a wise choice. If you have some stomach problems or get really nervous before competitions it is wise to have breakfst in a liquid form..maybe even a sport drink. In between games if you have a larger time period, continue to refuel with easily digested carbs, bananas, bagels etc. and here again sport drinks with carbs are a good choice..aiding in hydration too!
